A cottage garden- in- the- making near Sattal, Uttarakhand.

Set atop a ridge at 1400 m elevation in the Outer Himalayas of Kumaon region, the garden is part of architect Ashok Lall's and filmmaker Ein Lall's lovingly crafted hillside home "Bagheecha" 🐾🐆.

The garden consists of naturalistic planting, select edibles, informal gravel paths, seamless views, gentle gradients and a sloping lawn. 🍀 Plants have been bought, as well as foraged carefully from the surroundings... and set in place by the helping hands of many ! 🌿

The front garden gently rises up towards the boundary to cut off views of the road, and lead the eye straight to the valley beyond. The rear garden has a herb mound among other minimal but carefully located plantings. Both gardens are connected via green strips in the setbacks and visually via the architecture of the cottage that allows for open movement and views right across the ground floor.
